Established (in partnership with Cynthia Halpin) in 2005 a community outreach education program in dance and theatre. The program was established to bring a stronger connection between the community and the college by offering high quality performing arts classes, taught by professionals and college instructors. The program also provided the opportunity for students to work as teaching assistance and learn dance and theatre pedagogy as well as have a scholarship opportunity to further develop their technique. An outgrowth of this program was a Full Production of the Nutcracker Ballet, combining young community dancers and college students from the dance classes in the performing Arts Department. THE program was very successful and grew very quickly. PAI, as it was and is known, was providing a strong connection to the community, opportunities for the college students, and was also providing revenue to the Performing Arts Department from the tuition collected. The funds enabled the Department to provide support for needed equipment and Performing Arts programs. By 2009, the Institute had grown so extensively that it was too big to remain on campus. The program moved downtown and became the Cortland Performing Arts Institute. There is still a strong connection to SUNY Cortland. We continue to produce a production of the Nutcracker every other year that offers performance opportunities do our students in the Department, as well as continuing the Student assistant and scholarship programs for the college students. Th biannual Nutcracker production is now staged with casts of over 150 dancers and sells out a full weekend of performances.
Worked as part of committee to create a partnership between the College and the McNeil foundation to bring college musical ensembles to perform and rehearse at ROSE HALL in downtown Cortland.
